COO and Executive Producer
John Powell is the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Producer of Corporate Events at Yellow Moon Productions. After spending decades on the road creating events for others, John began Yellow Moon Productions in 2020 with his wife, Danette, who is the company’s President and CEO.
It’s in John’s nature to see potential where others cannot—for 40 years he has built an extensive career guiding events from first idea to final production. His broad and extensive experience within the live event industry includes all categories of support, producing, directing, show-calling, technical consultation, stage management, and high-profile client communication. In the late 1990s, he was the first of a two-man technical team to open and manage the celebrated Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, Texas.
John’s reputation for absolute expertise has created a vast network of relationships with technical and logistical vendors, freelance technicians, and large venues and convention centers across the United States. He is experienced in managing show budgets of $10 million+ and overseeing events produced for audiences of 50,000 or more. He has worked in every live event setting imaginable: concert tours to corporate events, commercial films to political inaugurations.
John has lived all across the South, including Houston, New Orleans and Nashville, but now calls the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex home. His work is shaped by two life philosophies: always tell the truth and treat others the way you need to be treated. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his beloved wife, children and grandchildren. He also loves fixing things that no longer work and cooking outdoors.
